The Leadville Race Series kicked off another season of ultra endurance events last weekend with the Trail Marathon and Heavy Half Marathon. The race routes had to be rerouted due to a lingering snow in the alpine zone.
“The Heavy Half and Trail Marathon are some of my favorite events because the races are a perfect introduction for participants to experience the welcoming spirit of Leadville while challenging themselves on the iconic and beautiful Leadville terrain,” LRS founder Ken Chlouber said.
Leadville local Timmy Parr won the Heavy Half with a time of 1:39:25. Brad Miles of Boulder finished a minute later, followed by fellow Boulder resident Dan Feeney.
Brittany Charboneau of Golden was the first woman to finish with a time of 1:54:49. Kelli Palizzi of Colorado Springs and Melissa Fairey of Houston placed second and third.
Joshua Lund won the Marathon with a time of 3:03:26 while Leadville local Pat Cade placed second. Alaska resident Chad Trammell placed third.
Last year’s Grand Traverse Trail Run winner Tara Richardson was the first female Marathon finisher with a time of 3:22:41. Jana Wilsey of Denver placed second and Corinne Shalvoy of Castle Rock placed third.
Local Leadman and Leadwoman hopefuls Rodrigo Jimenez, Wesley and Marvin Sandoval and Abby Reinholt all completed the trail marathon. Their hope of the title remains alive.
