“It’s been a Monday”

Last Monday, a severed bear foot was found on the Lake County Courthouse lawn, though it was originally mistaken for a human appendage.

At about 10 a.m., the foot was discovered and an investigation began. By noon, an anthropologist working with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the foot, stripped down to bones, belonged to a bear and was not that of a human.

Sheriff Amy Reyes said she thinks an animal likely brought the foot to the Harrison Avenue location as opposed to someone leaving it there intentionally.

“It’s been a Monday,” Reyes said of the day’s events.
