Forget Thanksgiving-the most highly anticipated holiday this November is Parents Night Out. This Friday, Nov. 20, parents can drop off their youngsters (ages 4-12) at the Sixth Street Gym. We'll give them lots of structured fun, while Mom and Dad hit the town or have a quiet evening at home. Drop-off begins at 6 p.m. and pick-up ends at 8:30 p.m. sharp. The same parent or legal guardian must drop off and pick up the youngster.

The Recreation Department collaborates with many non-profit, sports-related organizations in Lake County. One of the finest is Leadville Nordic. Karl Remsen and his team of coaches are gearing up for another winter of fun Nordic ski instruction. Registration for the Bill Koch children's program is now under way. For information about this program, the adult ski program, wax nights, or anything else Nordic, visit www.leadvillenordic.org.

Heading back indoors, Upper Arkansas Construction and LLL Plumbing pushed RQX and the Unincredibles to the limit in Week 4 volleyball action, but the two league leaders continued to separate themselves in the standings. As the midpoint of the season approaches, RQX remains undefeated, with the Unincredibles also knocking on the first-place door.

Do you have your copy of the Recreation Department Winter Program Guide? This 24-page booklet provides information about all the upcoming winter leagues and activities-for both kids and adults. It also contains facility information, registration forms, and much more. Find your copy at many stores along Harrison Avenue, or stop by our offices in the courthouse. This booklet has all you need to know for a fun winter in Lake County.

Finally, we are in hourly contact with the world's leading meteorologists and climate experts. As soon as they give us the green light that temperatures will stay below freezing, we'll turn on the water and start making ice at the rink. Sharpen those blades, Leadville-ice skating is coming!
