Rosemary Garcia, 81, longtime resident of Ojo Caliente, New Mexico, passed away on May 30.
She was born on Aug. 18, 1937 in Coyote, New Mexico Her parents were Lazaro and Adelia Romero. Garcia was preceded in death by her spouse, Diego “Willie” Garcia; sons, Genaro Garcia and Julian Garcia; parents, Lazaro Romero and Adelia Romero; and ten brothers and sisters.
Garcia is survived by her brother, Daniel Romero of Espanola; daughters, Emmalee Garcia of Gavilan/Ojo Caliente, , Chrystine (Jesus) Medina of Ridgecrest, California, Amy Rodriguez of Gavilan/Ojo Caliente, and Jeannette (Kemmer) Croff of Gavilan/Ojo Caliente; son, Leroy (Ofelia) Garcia of San Diego, California. She raised seven children, and was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Garcia was very close to many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She is survived by many family and friends.
Garcia was employed by a laundromat in Leadville, The Lodge in Vail; McDonald’s in Los Alamos, N.M., and Dandy Burger in Espanola, N.M. for 20 years. She was a Guadalupana and president of the Senior Center.
Garcia loved going to the Senior Center, loved to dance, she loved to cook for her family and anyone who stopped by her house. Everyone loved her cookies and tortillas, according to her family. She loved to play bingo. She was queen, on numerous occasions, of the Senior Center Valentine’s Day dance. She loved to garden and can everything and make jelly. It is said she was spoiled by all her brothers and her children.
Serving as pallbearers are Jerome Broyles, Jeremy, and Jessie Broyles, Marc Medina, Eric Sanchez, and Gilbert Ferran.
Rosary was held on Tuesday, June 4, at the Rivera Family Funeral Home in Espanola, New Mexico. On Wednesday June 5, Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ojo Caliente, with interment following at the cemetery.
