We want what is best for Lake County children

Posted: Wednesday, September 26, 2012 12:53 pm

Personal and career decisions have our family leaving Leadville next spring. Our two boys, Porter and Jack, will not benefit from the passage of the 3A voter initiative. We will continue to own real estate in Lake County and will therefore be contributing via property taxes should 3A pass. One perspective is that given our upcoming move, it is against our best interest to vote for 3A. And yet there is no question, we will each be voting “yes” in support of 3A.

Why? We love this community. Leadville’s future is bright, but it is also dependent on incremental evolution and improvement over time. We want what is best for the children of Lake County and for the future of this community. We know that just about the only thing we can do to increase real-estate values is to improve our schools. Our understanding is that the only tried-and-true economic development activity that actually works is school funding.
