Anthony Martinez represented Lake County High School last week at the Colorado State Track andField Championships. The sophomore qualified for the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles in the 3A division.
Martinez went into the meet ranked sixth in the 110s, but his excitement took over and he jumped the gun. All false starts result in disqualification, so Martinez lost his opportunity to race.
The next day, Martinez participated in the 300-meter hurdles. He ran just under his personal best, a new PR of 42.65 seconds, and moved from 14th place to 12th.
“Anthony has had an excellent season, so it is disappointing to see it end with a false start,” said Coach Amy Peters,“but we’re thankful that we have a couple more years to accomplish his big goals.”
