Building plans for Get Outdoors Leadville!’s gear library are almost finalized.
On April 17, Architectural Workshop, the Denver-based firm commissioned to design the library, presented architectural drawings to the community.
The annex, which will butt up to Colorado Mountain College’s very own gear library, is set to be approximately 2,250 square feet and will include a classroom, gear workshop and a lot of storage space.
Externally, the plans include a pedestrian plaza and a van and trailer loading zone.
“We want this to be a living, breathing, growing space,” said Holly Hall, an associate for the design firm.
One of the biggest challenges while designing the library was figuring out how to fit all the gear, Hall said.
If all goes as planned, construction will commence this summer and the facility will be open to the public next winter.
A $10,000 grant from the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation will help fund the gear library’s construction this summer.
“We want to get it right the first time,” said Mark Bowers, principal for Architectural Workshop.
