A trail connection in the works

Lake County Open Space Initiative (LCOSI) is moving forward with its effort to connect and expand the Hayden Meadows trail system. The proposed plan, which is moving forward after the Board of County Commissioners agreed to sponsor the group in applying for a special use permit from the Colorado Department of Transportation, seeks to connect the trail system across U.S. 24. LCOSI hopes to create a connecting path along the existing abandoned Colorado Midland Railroad grade that passes under the bridge at Hayden Meadows, allowing for cyclists and pedestrians to cross under the highway and access more trails. If the permit is approved, LCOSI hopes to begin construction on the trail connection May 2021.
