Kindergarten students

Kindergarten students sound out words with teacher Sarah Bridge during a Core Knowledge Language Arts phonics lesson at Lake County Elementary School on Monday, Oct. 24.

Lake County School District (LCSD) introduced the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum this school year after conducting literacy audits across all age groups.

The district’s Literacy Leadership Team, made up of teachers and administration, began these audits back in May 2021 and received a four-year, $1.6 million Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant that October to help fund these efforts and other initiatives.
