The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) executed a search warrant Friday at 510 Harrison Avenue, the address of the Bailey Kent Mortuary.
Upon searching the building, LCSO found conditions that warranted shutting down the facility until the hazards were adequately addressed.
A press release issued by LCSO did not elaborate on what was found inside that justified the shutdown, though the conditions constituted a fire hazard according to a notice posted in the window of the business.
According to the notice posted in the mortuary’s door, Leadville/Lake County Fire-Rescue and the Leadville/Lake County Building Official found the interior of the building to be unsafe, unsanitary and deficient.
The notice was removed from the building Friday evening. The Herald did not receive responses from LCSO, Leadville/Lake County Fire-Rescue or the Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s Office to clarify what hazards were identified inside the business or if they have been remedied.
