Peter Arne Pedersen

Peter “Pete” Arne Pedersen of Fort Collins passed away Sept. 27. He was born on Sept. 21, 1935 in Grinnell, Iowa to Edwin and Hattie (Jantzen) Pedersen.

Pedersen was the youngest of three children with two older brothers, Bernard E. and K. Mark Pedersen. He attended high school in Grinnell, graduating in 1953. Pedersen then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in business education from CO State Teachers College in Greeley and a master’s degree in guidance counseling from Western State College in Gunnison.

Pedersen spent the majority of his teaching years at Lake County High School, where he also spent 15 years coaching the varsity boys basketball team and other sports. During that time, he had three teams compete in the state basketball tournament.

In 1975, Coach Pedersen had the honor of coaching the Colorado All-Star South AA-A team. In 2010, he was inducted into the Lake County Sports Hall Fame. Pedersen retired in 1993 after 33 years in education, moving first to Loveland and then Fort Collins. Pedersen touched a generation of Leadville kids through his counseling, teaching and coaching.

Pedersen married his wife Joyce in December 1963 in New Virginia, Iowa, and they began their adventure in Colorado soon after.

Pedersen was preceded in death by his parents Hattie and Edwin and his brothers Bernard and Mark.

Pedersen is survived by his wife Joyce (Norris) Pedersen, his children Lori Lunn (Dave) of Fort Collins, Dirk Pedersen (Sandi) of Limon and Juli Schwalm (Jayson) of Farmington Hills, Minnesota, and his cherished grandchildren Josie, Andrew, Mark, Addison, Owen, Lily and Katy.

“He will be fondly remembered as an amazing husband, father and grandfather,” his family said. “He will be greatly missed.”

A memorial service will be held in Grinnell, Iowa at a future date.
