Ramona Negrete Martinez

Ramona (Mona) Negrete Martinez passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25 at her Spring Creek, Nevada home after a four-year battle with cancer. Her family was by her side at her death.

Martinez was born on October 10, 1958 in Torrington, Wyoming to Pete and Carmen Negrete and was the second of six children. The family moved to Leadville in February 1963. Leadville was her home until she and her husband, Joey, moved their family to Spring Creek.

Martinez enjoyed outdoor activities with her family and friends and enjoyed seeing different places. Her two favorite places were back home in the mountains where she got to see her family and going to Hawaii to be near the ocean. Martinez’s absolute favorite activity was spending all the time she could with her grandbabies! At one point, Martinez had mentioned that she really liked elephants and dolphins, and soon people started giving her elephants of all sorts. She had quite a collection of both!

Martinez’s family said she will always be remembered by family and friends as a person who could light up a room with her smile and energy. She had an infectious laugh that would spread through a room and keep everyone in good spirits.

Martinez is survived by her husband of 36 years, Joe E. Martinez; her two sons, Joey Jr. and John Martinez; and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by her parents, Pete and Carmen Negrete of Leadville; her siblings and their families, Pete Negrete of Denver, Dee Dee (Paul) of Buena Vista, Mark (Sylvia) of Leadville, Cindy (Rohn) of Leadville, and Tim (Vicki) of Buena Vista. There are also many aunts and uncles too numerous to mention.

Martinez will be sadly missed by her friends and family, her family said.
