Edward “Jack” Longwell

Edward “Jack” Longwell, 86, of Colorado City died on Oct. 25. He was born in Leadville to Joseph and Callie (Thompson) Longwell.

Longwell graduated from Lake County High School and raised his family in Leadville. He worked at Climax Mine until his retirement in 1986, moving to Colorado City in 2013.

Longwell was an avid golfer, active in the Elks and Boy Scouts, and loved to square dance. He also loved to travel. When his family was young, he would choose a destination each summer, and the family would road trip in their camper entitled the “Mickey Mouse House.” After getting together with his wife Nancy he kept traveling, even getting married in Alaska. He enjoyed John Wayne movies, collecting and building clocks, and he loved his mountains.

“Jack had a quick, gentle smile and a loving heart,” his family said. “His passing is an enormous loss for his family and friends.”

Longwell was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Earl, Charles and Roy; and his son Charles.

Longwell is survived by his wife Nancy Jo Longwell; his former wife Patricia Longwell; his daughter Connie (Jim) Williams; his sons Keith (Andrea Wanerus) Longwell and Timothy (Lourdes) Longwell; his grandchildren Gus and Caul Williams, Zach (Arrin) Wanerus, Alec Longwell, Yanina and Dennis Longwell; and his two great-granddaughters Emily and Vivienne Wanerus.
