Dear fellow Leadvillians,
The other week I got a letter from the City of Leadville notifying me and other nearby residents of a conditional use permit being requested for a short-term rental just two doors down from my residence.
I was confused because I thought that the cap for short-term rentals had been reached. Apparently, according to City Hall, it goes up each year, so they expand short-term rental access caps each year.
Now, from what I read in the Herald, most people feel that our current need in the rental department is for long-term rentals to house the people working here in Leadville. So why on earth would the city even consider raising the cap on short-term rentals when our need is obviously long-term rentals?
In addition to that, parking is not adequate for another short-term rental on our part of East Eighth Street, just two blocks off of Harrison Avenue. I have talked to several of my neighbors about this and so far they all say that the parking is not adequate to add another short-term rental on this part of our street. The city has already taken away our residential parking signs, which had been in place for over 20 years.
I also suggested extending the diagonal parking another block up our street, which City Hall indicated to me that they were unwilling to do. I’m reasonably sure that that was due to the fiasco that they pulled in front of the post office this year with diagonal parking.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my concerns.
