The Lake County High School girls basketball team started their season last week with some tough losses, but is showing some promising effort.
The Panthers traveled to Buena Vista on Tuesday, Nov. 29 for their first game of the season, losing 9-63.
Although this was a substantial loss, head coach Jeni Windorski said it was good to get the first-game jitters out of the way.
On Saturday, Dec. 3, the Panthers battled the Vail Christian High School Saints during a tournament in Edwards and ended up being defeated 23-42.
“We’ve seen moments of greatness, it’s just putting everything together for four quarters,” said Windorski. “Once we can stay out of foul trouble, I think things will change.”
This is Windorski’s first year as head coach, but she’s bringing plenty of experience to the table. The Leadville native went to college on a basketball scholarship and spent a couple years as assistant coach for the Panthers before taking on her new role this year.
“We have a great group of girls, and I’m excited to be here coaching,” said Windorski.
The Panthers’ first home game will be on Thursday, Dec. 8 against the Center High School Vikings at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, the girls will play at home once again at 3:30 p.m. against Cotopaxi.
