Lake County High School’s cross-country teams traveled to Gunnison last Saturday to compete in the Mountaineer/Cowboy Invitational. Nine high schools ranging from 5A to 2A participated in the event.  The five-kilometer course ran on flat dirt trails with little shade.

Jace Peters led the Lake County men’s squad. He finished fourth overall in a time of 17 minutes, 18 seconds, a big improvement from his 2021 time of 19:26. Jaren Peters snuck in a time under 20 minutes again, finishing 24th in 19:56. Abel Gonzales dropped 24 seconds from last year’s time, reaching 20:27 and 31st place. Matthew Wilson had the greatest time drop from 2021 to 2022: 2:32. This week, Wilson took 42nd place in 21:07.
